Tips for purchasing a guitar: 1. Don't buy an expensive guitar. For everyday use, you need to expect some wear and tear during the course of the year. 2. Strings can be nylon or steel. Nylon strings are easier to play but if pain is not a problem, steel will do fine. 3. The distance from the strings to the neck is known as the "action". The lower the action, the easier it is to press down on the strings and get a good tone. Over time, the action on a low quality guitar will increase because of warp-age of the neck or body. Look closely for war-page. 4. Buying a guitar online can be risky. It may look great in the picture, but you can't always tell. 5. Make sure you read my "For Parents Only" page. 6. Electric Guitars are not allowed for daily use. 7. You can pay anywhere from $0 to $1,000,000 for a good instrument! |
